Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 22, 2026
Your budget records (entries, budgets, income, categories and notes) stay on your phone. There's no account, and no server or cloud sync for your budget, so we never receive your records unless you send them to someone yourself. A few other things do reach us or the companies we use, and this policy explains each one: emails you send us, purchases (handled by Google Play or the App Store), crash reports and test feedback that Apple or Google pass on if you've allowed it, feedback survey answers, and what any website receives from your browser. We don't sell information, show ads or use analytics.
Who runs Tallé and what this covers
Tallé is made and run by Christopher Witkowski, Nova Scotia, Canada ("we" and "us" in this policy). This policy covers the Tallé app on Android and on iPhone and iPad, and the talle.ca website, including the feedback survey and the help videos.
Your budget records stay on your phone
Everything you enter in Tallé (your entries, budgets, income, categories, notes and settings) is stored only on your phone, in the app's private storage.
- There's no account to create and nothing to sign in to.
- You can add a name and email address under Edit profile at the top of Settings. That's optional, and it's only used to fill in the email when you share an export. Like everything else, it stays on your phone; it's included in Tallé backups but not in exports.
- Tallé has no server that receives your records, and no cloud sync.
- Your records leave your phone only when you choose: when you export them, save or share a backup, or send something to someone yourself, such as an email to us.
- Apart from purchases (see Purchases), Tallé connects to the internet only when you tap a link in it, such as Help or this policy, which opens in your browser.
We can't see your records, and we can't recover them for you.
If you lose your phone or delete the app
Because your records exist only on your phone, there's no other copy unless you make one. If you lose your phone, reset it, or delete Tallé, your records are gone, unless you've saved a Tallé backup somewhere else.
Save a backup from Export & backup in Tallé and keep it somewhere safe, such as your computer or a cloud drive you trust. Exports (CSV, JSON or Excel) are copies for reading in other apps; Tallé can't restore from them. Only a Tallé backup can be restored.
Your phone's own backups and transfers
Tallé asks iPhone and Android to leave its data out of your phone's own backups: iCloud and Finder backups on iPhone and iPad, and Google backup and device-to-device transfer on Android. That's why moving to a new phone needs a Tallé backup.
On iPhone and iPad, Tallé's database and all its copies are left out. A small settings store is still included in iCloud and Finder backups: whether App lock is on, a few timestamps Tallé uses for it, and the device model. It contains no budget records.
Some phone makers' own transfer tools may not respect that request and could copy Tallé's data to a new phone. On iPhone and iPad, "Offload App" removes the app but keeps its data on the phone; reinstalling Tallé brings it back.
How your records are protected
- Tallé's data is kept in the app's private storage, which your phone protects: other apps can't read it, and your phone's screen lock and encryption protect it.
- Tallé's database isn't separately encrypted by Tallé. It relies on your phone's protection.
- App lock asks for your phone's screen lock before Tallé opens. It keeps casual snoopers out of the app; it isn't encryption.
- Exports (CSV, JSON, Excel and the QuickBooks file) aren't encrypted. Anyone who has the file can read it.
- Backups without a password can be read by anyone who has the file.
- Backups with a password are encrypted with AES-256. If you forget the password, that backup can't be restored, by you or by us.
Once you share or save an export or backup somewhere, that copy is yours to look after. Tallé can't recall it. When you send an export with Share, Tallé keeps its copy of that ZIP in its private cache, since the app you shared it with may still be reading it, until your next export or the next time you open Tallé at least 10 minutes later.
If Tallé can't open its data and you restore a backup from the error screen it shows, Tallé keeps one copy of the damaged file in its private storage to help with recovery. It's left out of device backups, never sent anywhere, and removed when you delete the app.
Emails you send us
If you email support@talle.ca, hello@talle.ca or feedback@talle.ca, we receive your email address, your name as your email app shows it, and whatever you write or attach. If you turn on "Attach diagnostic info" in Tallé's Help before tapping Email support, the email also contains four technical details, which you can read or delete before sending:
- the app version and build number
- the platform and its version (Android or iOS)
- the device model
- the database schema version
These details contain no budget records. We use what you send only to answer you and fix problems.
Email to all three addresses first passes through Cloudflare Email Routing, which passes each message on without keeping its content. Its dashboard shows us delivery details for each email, such as the sender's address and name, the recipient, the subject and the date and time, for a limited time (see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy). Each email is then forwarded to Gmail, so Google stores it for us under Google's Privacy Policy. Google and Cloudflare may store or process email outside Canada, for example in the United States. We keep these emails for 12 months after the last message in a conversation, then delete them. Records of refunds we give are kept as long as tax rules require.
Please don't send screenshots of your budget or other financial details unless we ask for something specific to solve a problem. We don't need them to help you.
Purchases
Tallé's full version is a one-time purchase through Google Play on Android or the App Store on iPhone and iPad. Google or Apple takes the payment under their own terms and privacy policies; we never see your card or payment details.
Google and Apple give us reports of sales. For each Google Play order, we can see the order number, date and time, billing country, product, price and tax, the order's purchase token, and other orders the same customer made for Tallé, but not the buyer's name or email address. Apple's reports don't identify buyers. We use this only to keep our accounts and for refunds and support. If you ask us for a refund, we use the order number you send to find and refund the order.
To buy, restore and check your purchase, Tallé uses Apple's and Google's own purchase libraries (StoreKit and Google Play Billing), which talk to the store when Tallé opens and when you come back to it. These libraries may send technical information to Apple or Google under their own privacy policies (Apple, Google); for example, Google's library includes Google's own logging. Tallé adds no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools of its own.
On your phone, Tallé keeps only what it needs to know whether you've bought the full version: the trial start date, whether you bought it and when, and the results of its checks with the store. It doesn't store your order number or store account.
Crash reports and test feedback
Tallé has no crash reporting of its own. If you've allowed your phone to share diagnostics with app developers (for example "Share with App Developers" on iPhone, or usage and diagnostics on Android), Apple or Google may send us crash reports and performance data about Tallé. These are technical: the device model, system version, and where in the app a problem happened. They don't include your budget records. We use them only to fix problems.
If you test an early version of Tallé through TestFlight or Google Play testing, we see the email address you joined the test with. Feedback you send through TestFlight, including any screenshot and comment, comes to us with your device details. Please don't include your budget in screenshots. We keep tester email addresses and feedback from TestFlight and Google Play testing until 3 months after testing ends, then delete them.
Analytics and advertising
Tallé has no analytics and no ads. We don't measure how you use the app, we don't build a profile of you, and Tallé uses no advertising identifiers. The talle.ca website has no analytics scripts and no tracking cookies either.
The talle.ca website
Like every website, talle.ca receives technical details from your browser when you visit, such as your IP address and browser type.
Cloudflare delivers the website and protects it from spam and abuse. To do that, Cloudflare processes your IP address and browser details: to send you the pages, to block bots, to run the Turnstile check on the feedback survey, and to limit how often one IP address can send the survey. To block bots, Cloudflare sets security cookies. It sets cf_clearance when it checks that a visit comes from a real person, which can happen in the background without you seeing a challenge; the cookie records that the check passed and lets you skip Cloudflare's checks for 30 minutes (it may stay in your browser longer, but stops working after that). It may also set __cf_bm, which helps it tell people from bots and expires after 30 minutes of inactivity. Neither cookie is used for analytics or advertising. Apart from these Cloudflare security cookies, talle.ca doesn't set any cookies. If you play a help video, YouTube may set its own (see Help videos). We don't keep logs of visits to talle.ca. Cloudflare shows us overall traffic numbers, such as how many requests the site gets, and the details, such as the IP address, of requests that its security features block or challenge. We use those details only to protect the site and don't copy them anywhere else. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Help videos
The Help page and the home page can show short how-to videos hosted on YouTube. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. Until then you see a still image hosted on talle.ca. When you press play, the video loads in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com): your browser connects to YouTube, which receives your IP address, your browser details and that you came from talle.ca, and YouTube may store information in your browser. That's covered by Google's Privacy Policy. YouTube gives us only overall statistics, such as view counts, countries and devices, never who watched.
Video preference. Each video can come in a light and a dark version. If you choose Light or Dark on the Help page, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us. Choosing Auto removes it.
Feedback survey
If you fill in the survey at talle.ca/feedback, we store your answers (including which device you use Tallé on), the hour you sent them, and the survey version. We don't store your name, email address, IP address, or any cookie or device ID, and we only know your country if you choose to answer that question. The Tallé app never sends survey answers; the survey is only on this website.
Please don't include your name, contact details or financial details in your answers.
Answers are stored by Cloudflare in North America, which may be outside Canada (for example in the United States). The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block spam: Cloudflare checks your browser under its Turnstile privacy policy, and we only receive a pass or fail.
Answers are deleted automatically 2 years after they're sent; the deletion runs every day. Cloudflare keeps a recovery copy of the database for up to 30 days, so a deleted answer is fully gone within 30 days after that.
Answers aren't linked to your name, email or device, so we can't look them up by person. If you wrote something identifying in an answer, email us with roughly when you sent it and what you wrote, and we'll try to find it and delete it.
Deleting your information
- On Android: delete Tallé, or clear its storage in your phone's settings (usually Apps → Tallé → Storage). Either removes everything Tallé stored on the phone.
- On iPhone and iPad: delete the app. "Offload App" isn't enough, because it keeps Tallé's data. The small settings store described above can stay in iCloud or Finder backups made before you deleted the app.
- Exports and backups you saved elsewhere, such as Downloads or Files, stay until you delete them.
- Emails: ask us and we'll delete your emails, apart from refund records we must keep for tax.
- Survey answers: see Feedback survey.
Your rights and concerns
Christopher Witkowski is Tallé's Privacy contact, responsible for how Tallé handles personal information. You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@talle.ca with "Privacy" in the subject. We'll reply within 30 days.
If you have a concern about how we handle your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
Tallé is made for adults managing their own money. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, such as an email or a survey answer, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change would mean any new information leaving your phone, we'll explain it in the app and ask you first, before it happens.
